Facebook – Opportunities and Doubts

More and more companies are starting to get involved in the Facebook community, either by use of plugins that the Facebook users can use or by personal accounts to interact with various Facebook users. It’s a good way to market your company, to get new associates, or to get new employees. Just don’t go there to get employed, it doesn’t work that way.

Facebook is the world, it’s the place were users from all over the world gather for senseless timeconsuming activities. I have an account there too, because so do all my friends, but I’d rather be without it. Sure, Facebook is a nice community. It was tons of features, it’s fast, it’s simple, and you can find old classmates or significant others if you search for them, but there’s a downside to the community as well. If you read the policy before signing up you’ll notice that all the content you upload, write and share with other users, becomes property of the site. They have the right to use all uploaded material for whatever purposes they like. They can give out, sell, trade, whatever. Talking about a new invention of yours with a friend? Talking about filesharing? Talking about bad habits? Talking about criminal acts you did as a kid? Not a good idea, all that stuff might just backfire at you, if there’s a third party interested. This third party ( 1st being facebook, 2nd being you ) might be a company interested in employing you, an anti-piracy association or a company in search for new products. So there, that’s the reason you shouldn’t sign up at Facebook. Or rather, that’s the reason you shouldn’t like facebook, and why you should be careful about what you say and share on Facebook.

By all means, go ahead, sign up. Just don’t give them anything that you don’t want them to have. Beware, be aware. Other than that it’s just as they say it is, an international community full of opportunity. If you have copyright on your products, go ahead and advertise them here. Join the community, stay active, get friends, get contacts, get good business.
